Men’s Baseball Team Receives Highest Preseason Ranking in
School History
The men’s baseball team was ranked #32 in the country in the NAIA Preseason Baseball Ratings announced in November. This was the highest preseason rating for the Falcons since the launch of the program six years ago. “Voters are starting to recognize that Fisher College is one of the premier programs in the NAIA,” said Athletic Director and Men’s Baseball Coach Scott Dulin. Last year, the team finished the season ranked #25 during a campaign in which the Falcons were crowned Sunrise Conference champions for the second year in a row and came within two wins of playing in the World Series.
Hall of Fame Class
Inducted at Banquet
In a joyful, and at times reflective, ceremony, five members of the Fisher community were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The second annual Hall of Fame Banquet, held in the College’s auditorium, drew over 200 supporters and recognized five friends of Fisher athletics.
The emcee of the banquet, Athletic Director Scott Dulin, said, “Every one of this year’s inductees is a champion, and I am proud to count them among our family as we build an athletics tradition at Fisher College.”
Class of 2006 inductees
While his son and former President Christian Fisher (Class of 2005) envisioned and established the athletics program at the College, Dr. Scott Fisher established the ethos of the program. His unwavering support finds him attending games all over New England and Florida, often in the Fisher dugout.
To honor her support of Fisher Athletics, the College named a fan appreciation award for Barbara Haggerty before her passing in Spring 2005. The Barbara Haggerty Award was on display at her services. Her son, Kyle VanOfferen, is a senior on the baseball team.
Patrick Gaffny ’04 was the first recruited athlete to attend Fisher and he captained the baseball squad for four years. Pat was an All-Conference player and still holds records at College. In his senior year, Pat was third in the Sunrise Conference Player of the Year voting.
Amy Goodell ’04 graduated from the Management program while playing four years of softball. Always known for her dedication, Amy commuted from Sanford, Maine, every day for two years. During this time, she was a full-time student-athlete and held a full-time job in Maine.
Kessen Green ’04 is a natural leader and ambassador. Kessen played four years of basketball, received All- Conference honors, was a two-year captain, and earned his Bachelor's degree. He currently directs a youth center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is in his second year as an assistant coach.
The Class of 2005 inductees included Vanessa Golay ’03, who graduated from Fisher in three years and earned the Falcon Award (Student-Athlete of the Year) as a basketball player; Victor Molina ’02, who was one of the first men on campus and earned the first Falcon Award as a baseball and basketball player; and Scott Dulin, Director of Athletics and Men’s Baseball Coach, whose accomplishments include Coach of the Year for the Sunrise Conference and NAIA Region X and Director of Athletics of the Year for the Sunrise Conference.
The Lester Project
Self-described Red Sox fanatics Kathleen Eddy, a Fisher student (and Citizens Bank Scholar) and her friends at Northeastern University, Suffolk University, and Emmanuel College were touched when Sox pitcher Jon Lester announced that he was diagnosed with acute anaplastic large cell lymphoma. The women launched www.thelesterproject.com and began selling cancer awareness bracelets similar to those of Lance Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG campaign. Local and national newspapers and radio and television stations have reported on The Lester Project. All proceeds from bracelet sales go to the Jimmy Fund, the Red Sox organization’s designated charity, whose mission is to find a cure for cancer. Jon Lester’s cancer is now in remission and he is expected to return to the team for the start of spring training.
